Since May 2002, the Piedmont Triad Rural Planning Organization
has been working cooperatively with the NC Department of Transportation and
local officials to enhance transportation planning opportunities for rural
areas in the Triad. The RPO is responsible for:

Developing long range transportation plans for
the region

Providing transportation related data to local
governments

Developing and prioritizing projects for the TIP
-
Providing a forum for public involvement in the
transportation planning process.
The RPO began by meeting with local staff and elected officials
to establish priorities, identify key issues, and develop an organizational
structure. Since its inception, the RPO has:

Established an Advisory Committee

Drafted a Planning Work Program

Drafted a Prospectus
-
Hired a Coordinator
-
Collected data and resources
-
Surveyed members to identify local
transportation priorities

Coordinated with local NCDOT Divisions and MPO's

Provided training to RPO members
