RPO Projects

  • Sidewalk Inventory - A sidewalk inventory for all the municipalities in the Piedmont Triad RPO region was completed in 2007 and includes sidewalk distance, condition and curb ramps.  Sidewalk data will enable communities to be more competitive in obtaining bicycle and pedestrian grants.  Many communities in the Triad have already been successful in this regard.  Community sidewalk inventories like the one conducted by the Piedmont Triad RPO makes invaluable pedestrian data available to planners at all levels.
  • Environmental Justice - Environmental Justice is a term that describes the way in which consideration is given to both the positive and negative impacts of federal programs, projects, policies, or activities on minority and low income populations.  There are three fundamental principles of Environmental Justice:  To avoid, minimize, or mitigate disproportionately high and adverse human health or environmental effects, including social and economic effects, on minority populations and low income populations; To ensure the full and fair participation of potentially affected communities in the transportation decision-making process; To prevent the denial of, reduction in, or significant delay in the receipt of benefits by minority populations and low-income populations.
