The PTCOG planning services program consists of three primary service areas: Local & Regional Planning, Environmental Planning, and Transportation & Pedestrian Planning. Each program area is designed to provide timely, high quality, cost-efficient services to our member governments. The planning services division also provides GIS and statistical data services to its member governments and to other public and private agencies.
The PTCOG promotes regional cooperation among its local government members, coordinating planning activities among local, regional, state, and federal agencies. Specific local and regional planning projects include open space planning, land development, annexation studies, strategic planning, and local technical assistance planning.

Within the last decade, environmental planning efforts have been increasingly important the region. The PTCOG has became a major force in regional environmental planning efforts through programs such as Air Quality, Water Resources, and Brownfields redevelopment. Information on landfill capacity is also available in the environmental planning section.
Transportation and Pedestrian Planning:The Piedmont Triad Rural Planning Organization (RPO) is the lead transportation planning agency for Caswell, Montgomery, and Rockingham Counties as well as the rural portions of Davidson and Randolph Counties. In addition to RPO activities, the PTCOG has also taken a strong role in bike/pedestrian planning, and greenway and open space planning.
The PTCOG provides GIS services to its member governments, and to other public and private agencies, in support of local and regional planning efforts. PTCOG supplements its extensive library of regional GIS data through acquisition or development of local-scale data, and produces hard-copy maps at multiple scales, on a contract basis.
For almost 40 years, the PTCOG Regional Data Center has been recognized as the leading source for complete and reliable data about the region. Each year, more than 750 requests for statistical information are filled by the PTCOG. Specialized data and research services including maps, radius studies, and comparison studies are available at no charge to member governments. Services are available on a cost recovery basis to all others. Click here to get statistical data about the region.
