Area Agency on Aging

A division of the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments, the Area Agency on Aging is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and coordinating aging services for 195,000 residents age 60 and older in the seven counties of the Piedmont Triad (Alamance, Caswell, Davidson, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, and Rockingham). It is a part of a larger aging network created by the Older Americans Act of 1965 dedicated to improving the lives of older Americans nationwide.

It is the MISSION of the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging to ensure that maximum options and opportunities exist for older and disabled adults and their families to age well through advocacy, planning, training, resource development and technical assistance.

The VISION of the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging is to facilitate the development of a comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible aging system inclusive of opportunities that promote effective use of resources for well to frail older and disabled adults and their families.

In working within our region with member governments, public officials, professionals, and citizens, this office performs the following services:

ADMINISTRATION - oversight and quality management of federal, state, and local funds for programs serving older persons and their caregivers at the local level

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE - provision of technical assistance to local providers in service delivery, development of new services, staff training and support

PLANNING - facilitation of planning for options and opportunities for an aging population and caregivers, through monthly meetings with professionals, public officials, advo cates, and citizens

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT - development of non-public support, for agencies through corporate, philanthropic, and foundation opportunities

INFORMATION BROKERAGE - information and possible research on issues which may affect an aging population, caregivers, planners, service providers and citizens, and linkage to local, regional, state, and national resources which may benefit older adults and caregivers

ELDER RIGHTS - administration of an Elder Rights Program including the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program; Elder Mistreatment Prevention and Awareness Program; Legal Assistance Development Program; and the Outreach, Counseling and Assistance for Public Benefits Programs
